Selling on Walmart: An option for Amazon sellers?

For Amazon Sellers, expanding your online business to other platforms can be an option well worth considering. Therefore, we have already informed you in this blog about the possibilities to sell on eBay or Shopify. This time, we'd like to talk about a true giant in the e-commerce space: Walmart. In doing so, we'll enumerate the benefits you can expect when you sell on Walmart. We'll also go over the fees for account management and selling. Finally, we have a few tips for you on how you can also sell better on Walmart with Helium 10.

Benefits for sellers who sell on Walmart

Walmart does not need to hide behind Amazon. In fact, it is the second largest e-commerce sales platform. And the growth doesn't stop there. Compared to 2018, it was a whopping 97 percent in 2019. As of 2020, there was again an increase of almost 200 percent. Accordingly, you should also think about expanding in this direction. Especially in uncertain times, you should be broadly positioned in online commerce.

Protection

You can feel safe at Walmart in that not just anyone is allowed to sell there. This is in contrast to Amazon, where almost anyone can open a sales account. Accordingly, the competition for the Buy Box is also higher. Walmart, on the other hand, scrutinizes more closely who wants to open an account. In addition to getting your account approved, you also have to have your products reviewed. Thus, as an established company that stands for high-quality products, you will have an easier time gaining a foothold there. Also, you will not have to deal with a lot of competitors. This ultimately results in higher sales figures on Walmart.

More freedom

Walmart offers its sellers a lot of freedom. Among other things, you can determine yourself which guidelines apply to the sale. This concerns, among other things, guidelines for the return or exchange of products. In addition, the return of items can be organized in a Walmart store. Another important place where you have more freedom is in customer service. This is more direct and less strictly regulated at Walmart.

How can Amazon sellers sell on Walmart?

Now that we've cleared up a few of the benefits of selling at Walmart, we'd like to show you what the fees are. First, we'll go over account fees. Next, we'll take a look at the fees associated with selling items. Third, we'll contrast Amazon and Walmart's fulfillment options. Finally, we clarify the cost of storage.

Account fees

As you may already know, Amazon offers either an Individual Seller Account or a Professional Seller Account. With the first option, you don't have to pay a monthly fee. However, you are limited in what you can offer. A Professional account costs $39.99 per month. Walmart, on the other hand, charges no fees at all to operate an account. Moreover, you can put up as many items for sale as you want and there is no limit on categories either.

Sales charges

While an Individual Account on Amazon charges a fee per item sold, Walmart does not. Thus, in this case, the Walmart account is similar to the Professional Account on Amazon. The transfer fee at Walmart is also lower than Amazon's (6 percent to 20 percent of the price). Walmart also does not charge a closing fee.

Fulfillment Options

With Amazon, there are the well-known fulfillment options: Either you let Amazon handle your orders (Amazon FBA) or you do it yourself. At Walmart, you can also process your orders yourself. As an in-house fulfillment provider, Walmart has Deliverr. There are storage fees for the Deliverr service. However, these are slightly lower at Walmart than Amazon.

For now, though, let's show you how to connect your Helium 10 account to your Walmart account.

Helium 10 connect with Walmart

To connect the two accounts, you need to log in to your Walmart account. Then, in Settings, go to "API Key Management". There you can then access the Walmart Developer Portal. After that, you can create a Helium 10 API key. After that, you can select Helium 10 from the menu and confirm to transfer it to your Helium 10 account. Now, Helium 10 should have been added as a third party provider at Walmart. However, you still need to transfer your client ID into your Helium 10 account. Then on Helium 10, you need to click on "Connections" and add a new seller account there. You can then select Walmart from there. Once you've done this, you'll receive further instructions and then a confirmation from Helium 10.
