Jungle Scout Trend Report for Q3 2022

Jungle Scout is known to most Amazon sellers as a reliable tool suite. Now, the company has conducted a survey, the results of which provide important clues about Amazon business for the rest of the year. We would therefore like to take a look at the most important findings from the Jungle Scout Trend Report together with you. You will also find out which products are currently being bought less and which platforms are currently particularly important. In addition, we look at the effects of the current difficult economic circumstances. Finally, we will also explain how you can save money when using Jungle Scout.

Key findings

As mentioned in our news article from this week, many shoppers - especially in the U.S. - are allowing their buying behavior to be influenced because they are afraid of the consequences of an economic recession. Accordingly, these consumers are now buying less. It is also noticeable that almost 30 percent of shoppers have already started shopping for the Christmas season. In addition, more and more people are also buying items directly via social media platforms.

Trends and key marketplaces

Due to inflation, many people are buying fewer items from certain categories. For example, 50 percent fewer cleaning items are sold. The situation is similar for beauty and care items. Vitamins and nutritional supplements are also being sold less. Sales figures in the home and kitchen sector also fell by almost 50 percent. The top marketplace continues to be Amazon. In second place is Walmart with its physical stores. This is followed by Walmart.com. Target takes fourth place ahead of eBay.

Effects of the economic situation

In the survey, participants were able to indicate how their purchasing behavior is currently changing. 84 percent said that rising inflation is influencing their spending. This is 7 percent more than in the second quarter of 2022. Impulse purchases have also become fewer. In addition, more people are now saving before making a big purchase. The most significant change has occurred when asked about the stability of household income. Whereas "only" 38 percent said household income was unstable in quarter 2, this figure had risen to 52 percent by quarter 3. More than half of consumers want to spend less money this holiday season. In addition, 47 percent of shoppers want to buy reduced products.
